Legal Concerns Regarding COVID-19
COVID-19 Concerns
COVID-19 has presented numerous challenges for everyone, including concerns of the virus itself, taking care of kids at home, and financial concerns during the stay-at-home orders. In certain circumstances, the law may provide some assistance.
Business owners forced to shut down during this time have lost significant revenue and likely profits. This effects the owner and employees. If you own a business and have business insurance, there may be relief available to you. Certain policies may have business interruption coverage that could cover your lost revenue or profits. Be aware of advice or information from your insurance company telling you that there is no such coverage, there actually may be and your insurance company may not have been honest. It is important to have a lawyer experienced with insurance policies review your policy and your case.
There are also some business that have been open during this time as essential businesses that had employees test positive for COVID-19, but then failed to advise other employees of the positive test and also failed to properly clean or disinfect the property. If a person contracts the virus in these circumstance, such could be the result of a business owner breaching a duty to its employees and the public. If you think you contracted the virus in these circumstances, we are investigating whether there may be liability on the business owners.
